Hagerstown, Maryland Speed Traps
S. Potomac Street near Memorial Boulevard
Cops sit in Bester School’s parking lot late at night or very early in the moring. Strict enforcement of the 20mph school zone limit, otherwise it’s 30mph changing to 25mph.
W Antietam Street near Walnut Street
The cops sit either in the church yard right at the traffic light/Prospect St. overpass, or on the diagonal corner. They hide very well. Very easy to be going faster than the 25mph posted, or run the yellow light.
Interstate Rt 81 North & South near Exit Number 5
There is a crossover in the median just north of Exit 5 that, headed north, is hidden by bushes and, headed south, is just over a rise in the road, and cops will sit there, sometimes two or three of them, and nail you in the 60mph zone. Sixty mph is way too slow for how well the road is built, but it exists because of a major exit (#5 – 2 truck stops and 2 large malls), and an interchange with Rt 70 just south of it. Problem is, it’s 60mph from Exit 2 all the way until Exit 9 and that’s uncalled for, IMO.
Interstate 81 North and South near Interstate 81, south of PA line
Hagerstown, north and south of city limits. An unmarked SUV, black or very dark blue, sits either way just over the PA/MD border, in Maryland. Often has vehicles pulled over. Speed of vehicles runs about 10 miles faster than posted limit in most places, but the unmarked SUV is often out.
Marylan Avenue near Radio Station WHAG
Police hide just south of end of small patch of woods on west side of road near railroad yard just past WHAG building. Cars coming over small ridge at much over 35 mph (posted limit)are stopped. Sometimes, police set up just north of WHAG in depression made by same ridge. The speed limit northbound had been 40. Police cite cars not slowing soon enough. Usually in dark hours – evening or early morning – when police cars are harder to see.
