Ann Arbor, Michigan Speed Traps
Huron Parkway near Huron Hills Golf Course
Long stretch of 4-lane roadway with no sideroad access. At 35mph posting, police are constantly patrolling and frequently parked on the northbound shoulder just over a slight hill. They are there so often that the grass is worn down. Many tickets per day are given.
Washtenaw Avenue near Stadium Boulevard
Four-lane straight road, with 30mph posting. Constant patrolling and police parked in parking lots adjacent to the road with radar. Average safe speed is 40mph and there is always someone pulled over.
Washtenaw Avenue near Cambridge Road
Police hide behind bushes on east side of Cambridge. Typical of Ann Arbor Speed traps, the trappers conveniently locate themselves at the bottom of a long northbound decline (which begins near Vinewood), insuring that northbound motorists will unwittingly gain speed as they approach the trap. (The posted speed along Washtenaw decreases the closer you get to campus.) The vantage point on Cambridge at Washtenaw also ensures that anyone violating the many illegal left turn signs along this strip of Washtenaw is dead meat. Police have been obsevered before 8:00 a.m. even on a Saturday, and during summer months, a flock of motorcycle cops (5 or 6 at a time) can sometimes be spotted here. Fun stuff! Ann Arbor’s many speed traps are a year-round outdoor sport for the police, and a colossal revenue maker for the city. Call it taxation without representation.
Huron Parkway near Washtenaw Avenue
The speed limit is 35 and it is a 4-lane road with no business’s or houses on this part of it which stretchs quite a ways. The speed limit is ridiculous! The police are seen here often with cars they have pulled over.
Main Street near On Main between Jefferson and Madison
Ann Arbor Police sit in Parking lot near Rail Road crossing on Main Street. Enforcement is southbound at bottom of hill leaving downtown Ann Arbor. Speed limit is 25 MPH.
