Novi, Michigan Speed Traps
Red Lobster on Novi Road
Police sit at Red Lobster and if do not come to a complete stop at the amber light going into the mall they get you.
Taft Rd & Emerald Forest Dr
Taft Road is especially bad all the way from Grand River to 8 1/2 mile. The speed limit in this stretch is 35, 10 miles below the North / South routes of Novi and Beck roads. Police always hid near the school area on Taft.
W 11 Mile Rd & Meadowbrook Rd
This is one of the wo0rst in Novi, especially for drivers on South Bound Meadowbrook. The police wait on the South Side of the Bridge over the freeway. The road has a rural look with a lot of industry on both sides, but 35 is the limit. Fed Ex and other commercial trucks will ride your bumper at that speed, but to exceed it is pure peril.
Grand River Ave & Beck Rd
Cops will sit in the Chase Bank parking lot to make sure no one turns on red. The left turn light is short and only alows 5 or 6 cars through at a time. When they did contruction on the Wixom Road overpass this area was extreamly conjested and cops wuold be writting tickets about every 15 minutes.
9 Mile Road near Beck Road
Speed limit on 9 Mile Road is 30mph, which is unusual for a main east-west "mile road". When a motorist turns off Beck Road onto 9 Mile Road, it is reasonable to assume that the speed limit on 9 Mile Road will be the same as the speed limit on Beck Road, 45 mph. The 30mph sign becomes visable after a higher rate of speed is attained. An unmarked police car with radar is positioned facing west to catch vehicles accelerating after turning onto 9 Mile Road. A speed limit sign should be closer to the intersection in order to inform drivers before they surpass the 30 mph limit. It should be noted that the speeding tickets issued at this location are routinely reclassified upon payment, so as to keep points off the driver’s record. This clearly demonstrates that the low speed limit at this location is a moneymaker for the City of Novi, and not actually a public safety issue.
