Asheville, North Carolina Speed Traps
I-40 between Swannanoa and Asheville Exit 55
The troopers stop in the median and clock cars coming up over the hill before they can see the Troopers. They love to write seat belt tickets, since there is no real fighting that. NC is a state that allows the trooper to write a ticket for only 1 mile over the limit, and the judges (who are paid by “Court Costs” follow this to the letter. They MIGHT let you by with just “Court Costs”, but they will collect the Court’s money.
I-240 East of the US-70 overpass near the Asheville Mall
State Trooper hides behind shrubbery looking for speeders going East. May have motorists in scabby cars playing “leapfrog” to cause road rage. Is a very surly officer, and does not like people with CCW permits.
Asheville Downtown Exit 4B – Patton & Clingman
Speed goes from 55 to 20.
Recent (1 Nov) trap added.
The road is so terrible you’d hope they use the money to fix it.
Always be sure to ask the Magistrate in court for a “Non-Moving Violation”.
Hendersonville Road under I-40
The speed limit goes from 45 to 35 sudden. If not careful they’ll ticket you.
Biltmore Village
Come off I-40 W at Biltmore Village. Limit posted as 35. 100 yards further, limit posted again at 35. 35 established, no? Suddenly it’s 20 for a couple of blocks, if you happen to catch the sign so soon after the second 35. Then 35 city-wide limit again. 20 limit is enforced at the request of the Grand Bohemian hotel, according to the officer.
