Raleigh, North Carolina Speed Traps
Interstate 440 near Exit Number 2A
On I-440 (outer beltline), a marked RPD Crown Vic often sits on the acceleration ramp from Western Avenue to outer 440, between the hours of 11 pm to 4 am. The speed limit on this patch of 440 is only 55, so be wary when accelerating onto the highway.
Hammond Road near Rush Street
RPD car and/or motorcycle in the curve just before Rush St. coming from downtown. Dishing out lunchtime speeding tickets. Still havent caught me! zoom zoom zoom
Aviation Boulevard near RDU Causeway between I-40 and I-540
We all know that airport speed enforcement is strict, but be careful on the CAUSEWAY over the lake when approaching the RDU Airport on Aviation from I-540. The exit ramp from 540 angles steeply down with no stops coming from 540. You will find yourself traveling at 65mph or hgher without even thinking about it, and PD/Sheriff/HP (NOT the Airport Police) will nail you coming off of the ramp (Speed Limit drops to 55 at bottom of the ramp/under the overpass). PD informed me of a 75 in a 55 (not likely), pled down to 64mph with defective speedometer. Fine = $10. Court Fees = $100. Result = Taxed (!) for being unobservant of my ‘true’ speed. Lesson learned.
US Highway 64 Inbound Raleigh near East side of Raleigh
US 64 coming into Raleigh from Knightdale, Raleigh PD positions off the side of the road, their cruisers facing Westbound traffic radaring. This spot is almost immediately after coming down a hill and crossing the Neuse River Bridge. Speed Limit is 45 mph, traffic flows about 60 mph.
US Highway 70W near Angus Drive
Traveling west on US70, the speed limit changes from 55 to 45 just passed Umstead Park. After going thru the dip, you start downhill towards Westgate Rd. The RPD sit on Angus Dr. hidden by the trees, or next to the stop sign. If you’re traveling @ 50 mph. or over, "forget about it"….you’re busted. Tickets are written here at will.
