Beaverton, Oregon Speed Traps
Canyon Road near 91st Street
In between 91st and Sylvan on Canyon Rd, nearly all of the time, there is yet another City of Beaverton Photo Radar van parked on either side of the road.
Griffith Drive near US Highway Beaverton Hillsdale
This concerns the infamous Beaverton "Red Light Camera". You have exactly 3 seconds to go 111 feet across the intersection under the yellow which hits fast and turns red before you get through the intersection. Some have hit their brakes hard anticipating the super quick yellow only to get rear ended violently which really should cost the City in a lawsuit, and I’m sure eventually will. Many good citizens with excellent driving records which include me, have been caught by this speedtrap and had to pay the $256.00 dollar fine. Even the City Police hate this area and the damage it causes the city which only get 10% of the "take" from the owners of the four huge cameras on poles which crowd the very center of the sidewalk and are in the right of way for anyone walking on those sidewalks. Where is the ADA on the placement of these objects? If you or I stood on a street corner with a high powered flash camera and then flashed it in drivers eyes at random, how long would we stay out of jail? Studies have proven that a longer yellow actually produces fewer accidents as well as less ticketed drivers. Shame on you Beaverton.
Allen Boulevard near Lombard Avenue
A marked van sits in a church parking lot monitoring the eastbound lanes of Allen. There is a warning sign approx 150′ prior to the van about the same height off the ground as a for sale sign saying that you will be going thru photo radar. This van can be on this location as late as 11PM and as early as 7AM. There are also other locations on Allen at various times.
Allen Street near Lombard Avenue
Beaverton in general is awful and will not get better until the city council is replaced and the police chief fired. I have not had a ticket, but have seen many given out for little or no reason. You can find 4 to 5 cars at the same time parked at the local coffee shop.
Jamieson Road near State Highway Beaverton-Hillsdale
The Beaverton Police Van normally sits on the North side of Jamieson Road (approx. .3/mile from Beaverton-Hillsdale Hwy. & maybe .5/mile from Scholls-Ferry Road) and tucked in behind a hedge that hides the Van from Westbound traffic. The speed limit is 25/MPH in this neighborhood zone. The van will ticket anyone going 28/MPH or more.
