Knoxville, Tennessee Speed Traps
Adair Drive near Broadway Road
Driving from Broadway toward Inskip, just before the Adair Park, you pass Lynnhurst Cemetery. The KPD very frequently parks IN the Cemetery, and uses radar to catch speeders. The posted speed limit is 30 MPH.
Vally View Drive near Alice Bell Road
This is a notorious speed trap routinely patrolled during the late afternoon on both weekdays and weekends. The speed limit is 30 mph though by the time one approaches Alice Bell swimming pool from the west 40-45 mph is about the normal speed attained. I personally know 5-10 people "caught" at this location, including myself, and suggest avoiding the area if at all possible. This is one of those areas where the "instinctual speed" is at least 10mph greater than the posted limit and will earn you a ticket.
Interstate 40/75/640 near All Thru Knox County
There has been a recent increase in the speed traps in and around Knoxville, TN. Also along with the increased activity the EPA is issuing fines by mail some weeks later for increased pollution caused my the excessive speed. These EPA fines are as much or more than the speeding fines.
Sevierville Pike Road near Between end of James White Parkway and Sevier Avenue
When you turn left off of James White Parkway heading towards the South Haven area on Sevierville Pike, The speed limit quickly changes from 45 to 30 as you approach the stop sign at the intersection with Sevier Avenue. KPD sits behind a blind curve on side streets about 100 feet past the 30 limit sign. They will come after you even if you are still slowing down from the 45 mph section.
Interstate 640 East near Millertown Pike Crossing
Before you ask or think it, no I did not get caught here but lots of people are and have. It seems to me we build high speed Interstates to move traffic and then set the speeds just lower than traffic wants to move so we can nab them. The speed limit here is 55 mph but at that speed on a 4 lane highway you almost feel you are creeping along.
This is a major bypass off of I40 in Knoxville, TN at Knoxville Center Mall and the police "hide" on top of the bridge behind the concrete railing with a Radar Gun and have the police chase cars positioned on the entrance ramps on I640 East Bound.
I think it is disgusting and this city is into anyway they can get money out of a citizen it seems they have sunken to a new "low". I realize this tactic is not new, but it makes on feel like a child whom they are trying to catch doing a petty thing wrong but make a major catch of the money from just another bureaucratic way to drain citizen’s wallets.
