Metro will sit at the top of the hill where Lafayette merges into 8th (before the bus station) and will shoot traffic coming into town on Lafayette. 35 zone, 6 or 7 lanes wide. Usually laser, and usually motorcycle cops.

Granny White Turnpike near Stonewall Jackson Drive

Nashville, TennesseeNov 16, 20060 Comments

Northbound Granny White just past Richland CC. Speed limit drops from 40 to 35. Metro cycle cops sit on Stonewall Jackson (small side street) and flag ’em down in a steady stream. Professional courier here, so I see them all over town every day and try to keep up with them. This is a new one – got nailed 11/2006. (Didn’t have my detector turned on… duh!)

Interstate 65 near Concord Road

Nashville, TennesseeAug 18, 20060 Comments

Between the Concord Rd. exit and the Mallory Ln. exit in Coolsprings. there is a break in the concrete median. State Troopers like to sit between them, concealing their entire car except for the lightbar on top. Very hard to see at night. Mostly enforcement on the northbound lanes. Uses Ka Band radar. Ticketed 76 in a 70 in left lane.

McCrory Lane near Interstate 40

Nashville, TennesseeAug 17, 20060 Comments

Between I-40 and Hwy 100. This is the route tourists take to get from the interstate to the beginning of the Natchez Trace Parkway. The cops don’t patrol the winding part of the road which could possibly be justified as a safety issue. No, they sit in the entrance to a neighborhood and snare cars who are coming down a long hill which is the first straight section of road. During particularly busy times, the cops have been known to refuse to move out of the way so people can turn into the neighborhood. I witnessed one car nearly get broad-sided when the driver was forced to stop in mid-turn because the cop moved his motorcylce into the driver’s path.

I also witnessed an accident with minor injuries at Hwy 100 and Temple Rd. The police were called. It took them an hour to respond. A family member later told me that there were two motorcycle cops and a police car working the speed trap on MrCrory Lane at the time of the wreck. Incidents like this of police manning speed traps while ignoring accidents and burglary in progress reports are legion in Nashville.
