Nashville, Tennessee Speed Traps
McGavock Pike Road near along runway
Cops work this stretch of McGavock Pike anywhere between Harding Place and Currey Road. Motorists will almost always ignore the posted 35 MPH speed limit because the road and the entire area is absolutely desolate, and it is convenient to the cops since it is only a mile from the police station.
Interstate 40W near Exit Number 219
Metro cop sits in the grass just past the Stewart’s Ferry Pike exit, usually running radar from behind the wheel of the cruiser. Due to the terrain, the car is concealed from view by passing motorists until they are past the officer’s position (too late!) I’ve only seen him there mid-day, but it could be worked any time.
Interstate 40W near Exit Number 221
Metro Nashville Cops sit just before the Old Hickory Blvd exit (Exit 221), or underneath the Old Hickory Blvd overpass just past the exit. They enforce speeders and single occupants in the two person minimum per car HOV lane. Beware of this just from a safety standpoint. Cops will pull out into the extremely heavy traffic flow, fight their way 4 lanes over to the left lane to get behind the offender, then shove their way back across 4 lanes of traffic to the right shoulder – very dangerous to everyone on the road! As Nashvillians know, Metro also has a very bad habit of leaving the tail of their patrol cars protruding into a lane of interstate traffic (Metro officers have been killed by traffic because of vehicles running into patrol cars parked like this.) This location is worked almost every morning at some time during AM rush.
Winthorne Drive near Winthorne Court
Motorcycle cops frequent this residential 30 MPH zone at the corner of Winthorne Drive and Winthorne Court. Unique because it is one of few residential zones that actually seems to be enforced in South Nashville. The parents of the councilman for the district live very close by, so conicidence? You decide. This is also a frequent location for radar signs.
Interstate 40E near Davidson/Cheatham Co. Line
TN Highway Patrol and Metro Nashville cops love to frequent this area between the Cheatham County line and Charlotte Pike. I have seen Highway Patrol using "ringer" tactics – where a highly visible marked patrol car sits in the median near the top of a rise, with his radar gun powered up full time. He is there just to set off your detector so that you’ll ignore the REAL trap just over the top of the hill. My Valentine One is worth its weight in gold for sniffing out this kind of trap! This stretch of I-40 is a frequent drug enforcement area, so expect high tension if you get stopped here. Bad, bad news!
