Alexandria, Virginia Speed Traps
George Washington Parkway near State Route 233 overpass
Southbound GW Parkway at National Airport. There is an entrance to a Maintenance Area just after the overpass for 233 (secondary entrance to the Airport). Police sit in this area and clock motorists as they pass under overpass.
Beulah Street near Burnett Street
Police officers often park their cruiser on Burnett St. and stand at the intersection of Burnett and Beulah, with their speed gun pointed south on Beulah. I’ve also seen a cruiser parked in a southbound left turn lane near this same intersection. Beulah is a 4 lane divided highway with speed limit of 35 mph. Very easy to find yourself going 50 on this road.
Duke Street near Beatley Library
Alexandria cruiser sits partially hidden on west side of library watching west bound traffic with radar. Beatley Library is near the intersection of Cameron Station Blvd., N. Pickett St. with Duke Stree (Rt 236). Mainly on Sunday morning, catching speeders regularly.
Eisenhower Street near Holiday Inn
Coming from S. Van Dorn on Eisenhower St. as you are heading of the over path, the speed limit is 25 MPH. In the afternoon there are about 4 motorcycle cops with radars. Once they get you, they tell you to pull in the movie parking lot so that other cars don’t see them giving tickets out. They are really SMOOTHE about their tactics…
State Route 1 near King Street
On N. Patrick ST (Rte. 1N), between King and Cameron ST, one or two officers will park out of sight in an alley way on the right side. The officers will pop out on foot, carrying a hand held radar gun when traffic gets up to "speed" after the light at King turns green. They pull cars over for speeding and for running the light at King ST.
