Alexandria, Virginia Speed Traps
Yale Drive near Quaker Hill Court
Unmarked blue Impala seen working area on a regular basis, watch out as you come down Yale Drive towards Duke Street.
Quaker Lane near King Street
As you travel toward King Street on Quaker Lane, there is usually a Police Officer on the corner of Quaker and a neighborhood street with a radar gun wavnig people over who he catches. It is quite common in the morning, and only on those going toward King Street.
Braddock Road near High Street
Motorcycle officers sit just off Braddock at intersection of Braddock and High St. Many cars get caught after coming up the hill after the intersection with Russel Road, going away from old town. I live across the street from this trap and have witnessed it at all times of day, particularly evening/afternoon rush and weekends.
Van Dorn Street near Kenmore Avenue
About halfway between Kenmore and Sanger Aves there is a hill with parking cuts along the north/eastbound side. Since Van Dorn St parallels I-395 on this stretch there is no cross traffic and cars turning out of the apartment complexes on the opposite side are clearly visible from a distance. The usual traffic speed is between 40 and 50 mph; the speed limit is 35. Motorcycle cops, sometimes four or five at a time like to hide out in the parking cuts behind parked cars and pick off people traveling in either direction. They seem to primarily target the most egregious offenders – those going over 50 mph. The only time I have seen regular enforcement going on is between midday and early afternoon.
N Van Dorn Street near 2500 Block of Street
The officer sits in his car just around the corner as you exit I-95, the King Street Exit and take the immediate right past Fairlington Methodist Church onto N VanDorn. He is sometimes in the church’s parking lot and he also sits in the parking lot of the next building next to the 2500 block sign. He uses a hand-held radar gun. This is a small strecth of highway that is marked 25 mph, the remainder is primarily 35 mph.
