Herndon, Virginia Speed Traps
Frying Pan Road, Herndon
Around 3PM each day, 2 police cars are sitting on Westbound Frying Pan between Centreville Rd and Monroe St. The 2 police officers usually stand outside their cars and just click away on the radar of the cars going over the hill. The speed limit is a strangely low 35mph, so basically every 3rd car (I don’t think they can pull people over any faster) get whistled to pull over. Obviously its a popular spot to make money for the county, so don’t expect to talk your way out of tickets here.
McLearen Rd, near West Ox intersection
AS you head east on Mclearen, approaching the West Ox intersection, there is a dirt access road on the left hand side. You cant see the cops until it is too late because the cars are hidden by the bushes, and the officers have portable radar units. They have been here 4 of the last 11 days.
rt 267 immediately east of the greenway main toll plaza
speed limit decreases from 65mph to 35mph as you pass through the greenway main toll plaza proceeding east on 267. speed limit then goes to an "END 35 MPH" sign which means the actual speed limit is not posted for another mile or so (55mph) at the loudoun/fairfax border. I was cited in this "no speed limit posted" sector by state police running radar, went to court and had case dismissed due to lack of actual speed limit sign, WIN!
VA 267 at the Van Buren Overpass
LEO sits under the overpass on the right tucked in behind the end of a jersey wall. Can’t see him till you are right on top of him
McLearen Rd.
This entire road is a 35MPH speed trap. In addition to the cop parked in front of the self-storage, there is often a cop parked out of sight on the two-lane portion of this road (where the Colonial Pipeline equipment yard is). You might think that the speed limit is 45MPH–you’d be wrong.
