San Diego, California Speed Traps
Chateau Street
There is always a motorcycle officer that hides between cars and under a shaded tree. You don’t see him until he steps out and flags you over.
Foothill Drive near Between Fanuel/Beryl Streets
Sunday Mornings – 4900 Foothill Drive in Pacific Beach travelling Southbound. 25 MPH zone down a hill and rounding a curve – two motorcycle officers writing tickets as fast as they can.
Clairemont Drive near Clairemont Mesa Boulevard
It’s a 35mph stretch between Clairemont Mesa Blvd. and Balboa Ave. on Clairemont Drive. It curves, and the police use radar during the day only to catch speeders. It’s typical of drivers to go 45-60mph on this street.
Chateau Drive near Genesee Avenue
This trap is usually a motorcycle cop or two who hang out under the shade of the trees on chateau. They will usually be 1-2 blocks down Chateau when coming from Genesee.
Kearny Villa Road near State Highway 163
Motorcycle officers sit in the shade under the bridge between Miramar Road and entrance to the 163 freeway. I’ve witnessed officers walk out to the middle of the road, put his hand up and pull cars over which is a very dangerous thing to do since 2 bicyclists have been killed there within the past 3 years. The speed limit on this road is 65mph!
