Thornton, Colorado Speed Traps
136th Avenue near Washington Street
Between Colorado and Washington is a common speed trap. If you are heading west from Colorado, it is downhill at the light for Milwaukee/Cottonwood Lakes. Cop will be at the entrance to Cherrywood Park subdivision (most of the time it’s a motorcycle). Another hot spot is right below the hill before you cross Washington. Both motorcycle and patrol car sit between York and Washington picking on both east and west traffic. This can happen anytime of the day.
Interstate 25 near 84th Avenue
Motorcycles sit on oncoming ramp from 84th to N I-25. As your coming up the hill watch your speed.
Washington Avenue near 86th Avenue
Thornton PD Motorcycles uses King Auto’s fence and the trees in front of Check Auto Parts as a blind. Just south they use the Smoke Shop’s sign as a blind.
Interstate 25 near 128th Avenue
Motorcycle police lined up (4-6) under the 128th bridge. Speed limit set at 65 (used to be 75 few years ago) avg daily normal speed is 75+. Min fine is $120 for 5-10 over $180 for others. Avg fine $4-600 unless clean record.
Grant Street near Thornton Parkway
Multiple Motorcycle Cops run radar/laser along Grant Street from 88th Ave to Thornton Parkway. Normally they are hiding in the parking lots of the medical center.
