Jacksonville, Florida Speed Traps
US Highway 17 – Roosevelt Blvd near Park St. / Blanding Crossing
One radar or laser unit is parked under the overpass or just south of it. 5 – 8 cruisers waiting/persuing. I’ve seen this setup 3 times in 3 weeks. Late Feb. – early March, 2006.
State Highway 21 – Blanding Blvd. near Park Street
Same trap they’re running on 17 at Park St. A watching car is set up at the gas station on the corner with multiple persuit vehicles. I witnessed 7 cars pulled over at once around 9 PM on March 8, 2006.
Roosevelt Boulevard near Ortega bridge
Motorcycle trooper on median on second left-turn lane after bridge going southbound. There are trees in the median, making detection hard until too late. They do have a good line of sight on you in light to moderate traffic just as you crest the bridge and are coming downhill. They will use point to pull over on you if in leftmost lane, so stay in middle or right. Speed limit is 45 mph going northbound and southbound. Safe speed is closer to 55-60, traffic generally flows at this speed. Unknown what equipment was in use this time, although clocking seems to be viable.
Firestone Road near 103rd Street
Patrol cars or motorcycles often set up directly across from the Mormon church on Firestone Rd. If you’re over the posted 30 mph an officer steps out and waves you into the church parking lot. They park under trees and you won’t see them until it’s too late unless you have a detector.
Interstate 295 near Buckman Bridge
State Troopers sit on both sides of the bridge frequently
