Jacksonville, Florida Speed Traps
US Highway 17 Roosevelt
US-17 North right before the Ortege River. The police like to sit in a church parking lot and radar people then get them as they go over the bridge. They are there maybea once a week. And US-17 South by FCCJ Kent Campus under the Blanding overpass they’ll sit on the end of a small turn there, often with a motorcycle and radar. Be aware also of a green under cover Ford Expedetion that sits in the median there.
Southside Blvd (115) Just after the J T Butler overpass
If you are heading south on SouthSide Blvd during the Lunch hour, occaisionally, of course when you least expect, a Lazer trap is set up by JSO. This will typically involve one Officer with the lazer on a tri-pod, and 3 to 4 extra Police vehicle ready for active pursuit. The speed limit is 45. Generally you won’t be pulled over if only 10 miles an hour over, but be prepared to stop if you are hit for anything over this. If you are speeding at the very moment the J. T. Butler overpass comes into view, you have already been had, they are set up just around the bend just past the overpass, right where they can see you but you can see them, then as you go under the over pass, you view of the police cars becomes obviously waaaaaaaay to late!! Good Luck!
Roosevelt Blvd. (US17S) South of the overpass to Kent Campus
JPD car of west side of US 17 south of overpass. Hard to spot in time because of the curve north of the overpass. Officers appear to be allowing 10 mph over.
Abbess Rd. between Kernan and Girvin Rd
Both motorcycle and patrol cars equipped with radar usually sit at the corner of Abbess Rd and Country Creek.( Abbess Rd after a long curve, cannot see until you are in their sights. Limit is 30.
Julington Creek Bridge on SR13/San Jose Blvd
Both sides of the bridge are manned with multiple police, but usually only one side at a time – the north side going north, the south side going south. They generally locate in the Julington Creek Marina parking lot entrance area on the north side, and just around the slight bend in the road on the south side. They also look for seat belt use and will ticket for non-compliance.
