Jacksonville, Florida Speed Traps
Philips Highway (US 1) between Avenues and University Blvd
Mostly JSO and city police, some state troopers. This a four-lane divided highway with a speed limit of 45 MPH. Favorate times are when traffic is very light, either mid-day or early evening. Was doing about 55 to pass in left lane a slow moving auto and was given a ticket that cost me $145. Don’t tell me they don’t cost this much for just going over the speed limit, they can and do. This happened in 2002 before I knew of this web site.
St. Augustine Road/Between Emerson & Powers
Several motorcycle traffic cops hide in bushes while one officer stands in the middle of St. Augustine Road. Using a tripod, radar is used to clock vehicles in both directions. I was stopped and told to slow down, even though I was going 3 MPH over speed limit.
Fruitcove Road
Usually a single patrol car or motorcycle immediately on either side of the north bend, or along the stretch of road paralleling the St. Johns River.
At the end of Sunbeam Rd. – connecting to Phillips Highway.
They are using the Jiffy lube to pull people over for either speeding or illegally changing lanes to early while crossing the railroad track
I-295 at each end of the Buckman Bridge
Be very careful here. Plenty of places for officers to hide, especially on the west end of the bridge. Some people come flying off the bridge and police have easy pickin’s, like bears waiting for salmon swimming upstream. They also nab people for violating the double white line, which is for the off-ramp lanes at 17th and Blanding. I drive the bridge every day and I see someone pulled over just about as much.
