Las Vegas, Nevada Speed Traps
Westcliff Drive near Buffalo Road
As you drive north up Westcliff from Buffalo (towards Durango) the wide, wide street is only 35 MPH, but could easily handle 45 mph traffic flow. But, there is residential along both sides of Westcliff, with side streets all along the short distance to Durango (where Westcliff ends at a parking lot). There is a 25 mph school zone further up by Durango.
Officers (usually motorcycle cops) sit on some of the side streets not that far up (3 or 4 blocks) from Buffalo and nail anybody going over the posted limit.
Las Vegas Metro PD is notorious for ticketing people with just a few miles over the limit (say, 38 in a 35!)… and they’re even worse when near a school zone (15 or 25 mph – enforced all day during school – children present or not!)….
Tropicana Boulevard near Spanish Trails
Situated on Tropicana Blvd West, Police hide on North side of road between Durango and Buffalo. The road is 3 lanes each way, but posted speed limits are only 35 MPH. I have received two tickets here and have seen Police presence about 3 weekends a month. Speed trap is typically only running on weekends.
Cactus Road near Dean Martin Drive
I was driving East from Southern Highlands Parkway towards Dean Martin Drive (Industrial). Posted 35 MPH should be at least 45 MPH on this very good road.
Four motocycles were observed (three on my left and at least one one my right)
I was stopped for 55 in a 35. I was probably over 35 but not 55. Officer ingnored my request to view his radar display. I was in amongst several cars with a contractor truck on my tail. I moved to the middle lane as the truck passed. I was pulled over after the Officer had to get around several cars for about a mile. I was suprised that he pulled me over since I was mixed in with several cars. I believe that he was directed from the other motorcycles on the left and that is why he could not show me his display. He was busy on a walkie-talkie as he was writing the ticket. I drive this road often but not at 55.
Southern Highlands Parkway near I-15 and South Highlands Parkway
I-15 to Southern Highlands Parkway North. Posted at 35 MPH. Three separate traps (all day) within a few blocks using several motorcycles and unmarked cars. This road is a very good one and should be posted at least 45 MPH.
Valley View Boulevard near Warm Springs Road
The police sit on one or the other side of the hill (actually it is a low rise but you can’t see over it) and catch people going 50-70MPH in the 25MPH marked residential district.
