San Antonio, Texas Speed Traps
Wetmore Road near Thousand Oaks Road
If you are travelling on Wetmore Rd from Thousand Oaks to 410…do not go over 45 mph. Any time of the day or night. Just set your cruise to 45 and let everyone else pass you. I drive to and from work this way every day, and have seen at least one motorcycle cop either on my way or coming home from work. They hide in the middle of the Wetmore (it is 4 miles from T. Oaks to 410) by the closed down gas station. Consider yourself warned…
Evans Road near Green Mountain Road
The trap is on Evans Road about 4 miles East of Bulverde Road and about 1 mile West of Green Mountain Road. If you are traveling East on Evans Road, from Bulverde to Green Mountain, there are a series of rises and valleys in the road, and the speed limit lowers from 45 mph to 40 mph, for no discernible reason. The police hide in one of the valleys after the speed limit lowers to 40 mph and nail people as they come over the crest of the hill.
US Highway N.W. Military Highway near 410 Loop
While there is mention of the Castle Hills area in other postings, I’m talking specifically about N.W. Military just north of Loop 410 as it passes through the City of Castle Hills. The posted speed limit is 35 mph, and the local police just LOVE to bust people going even a little bit over the limit. The uninformed see this nice, wide, 4-lane highway, fairly lightly travelled, with low traffic businesses set back from the road on both sides, and think they can drive 45 mph. Well, they can….if they’re prepared to reach into their pockets. I suggest they put the speedometer on exactly 35, get in the slow lane, and let the ignorant fly by in the left lane. Stay conservative until at least the Boy Scout Camp on the west side of NW Military….then you can relax. If coming south, at the Camp begin decelerating and don’t pick up the speed until you either enter or pass under Loop 410.
Wiseman Road near N. W. 1604 Loop
Wiseman is a new road ( outside of 1604) It is 2 lanes in each direction and divided. The posted speed limit is 40mph. There are no homes, schools crossroads or anything else (except livestock). A person could drive this road safely at 55 or 60 mph! We all ( my neighborhood) feel that this is nothing more than a revenue-generating road. The sad part is that the people using this road are just trying to get to work/school on time!
East Evans Road near Bulverde Road
On East Evans from Bulverde Rd to Nagodoches Road — any time night and day… they are always giving tickets. It’s a 45mph, but because it’s so desolote everyone is tempted to drive faster. I drive it a lot and have gotten stopped twice, ticketed once and ALWAYS see cops hiding and giving tickets on this road.
